DIY Décor with Trim

Posted by Debra on Jun 1st 2017

Spring arrives and time to brighten and freshen up the home after a long winter! An old chair with black wood and dark fabric needed a spring redo. Along with it a window valance. The window valance was easy, I simply recovered the existing valance using a fabric adhesive.

To give the valance a polished and finished look, I used one of my favorite trims, the Alice braid in teal. http://www.expointl.com/alice-classic-woven-braid-trim/

Simply applied it with a fabric adhesive, I used Fabri-tac which dries very quickly and gives a strong bond. TIP: Apply the adhesive in a thin straight line, a couple inches at a time. Press trim firmly in place. At ends use a little extra adhesive to seal ends of trim together.

My next project was a little larger, a black wood chair with a very dark fabric. I took the cushions off and painted the chair. I covered the cushions. Again, for a finished look I added the Alice braid as a trim on the chair cushions. I love how the chair turned out and brightens the whole room up!

Did I mention I love this Alice braid trim and I had some left over so a black and white pillow got a punch of teal too and I think it looks fabulous!

It is so easy to add a polished and finished custom look to home décor pieces with trims. What pieces would you like to freshen up? Please let us know, send or post a message on our FB page, we would love to know!

Till next time, keep creating, sewing and crafting!
